Apple TV+ has announced a new order for “Hijack,” a seven-part thriller series about a hijacked plane that is set to star award-winning actor Idris Elba.
The series will be the first project stemming from Apple TV+’s first-look deal with Elba’s own Green Door Pictures. In addition to starring, the SAG-winning and Emmy Award actor will also serve as executive producer.
“Hijacked” will follow the journey of a hijacked plane as it makes its way to London over a seven hour flight in real time. During the seven hours of the tense thriller, the story will detail how authorities on the ground scramble for answers.
Elba stars as Sam Nelson, “an accomplished negotiator in the business world who needs to step up and use all his guile to try and save the lives of the passengers — but his high-risk strategy could be his undoing.”
George Kay will write the series, while Jim Field Smith will direct. Both will serve as executive producers alongside Elba, Jamie Laurenson, Hakan Kousetta, and Kris Thykier. 60Forty Films and Idiotlamp Productions will produce the series alongside Green Door Pictures.
The Apple TV+ show will join a growing slate of thrillers that includes critically acclaimed “Severance” and metaphysical thriller “Disclaimer.”
